Synopsis

A nightclub comedian beheaded. A circus clown hanged. A nurse viciously stabbed. Detective Inspector Eve Brenan and her boss, DCI Dominic Forrest, cross swords over the vague connections. Progress is non-existent, leads go nowhere. Outsider, Madeleine Scott’s academic mind fixates on something from her old university days. Her theory is both startling and macabre, but the connections are undeniable. Links to another horrendous death are a puzzle, until Scott’s deep research exposes the victim’s incredible background. Fascinating scenes of crime and forensic work link the killings to an almost forgotten, thirty-years old tragedy – an accidental death, and turn it into another unsolved murder. Enquires take Brenan and Scott on a journey in pursuit of a bicycle. The staggering revelation they unearth shines a light onto an even older suspicious death. A crescendo of twists, turns, horror, intrigue and courage culminate in an edge of the seat ending to a tale inspired by the world’s greatest story teller.
